The future is not some place we are going, but one we are creating.
The paths are not to be found, but made. And the activity of making them changes both the maker and their destination. – John Schaar
Together we will:
Friday evening is open to the public. Registration is 5:00-6:00 pm on Friday, October 4, followed by appetizers (and a no-host bar). The conference opens immediately afterwards, and will continue all day Saturday and Sunday, ending Sunday at 8:30 pm (after dinner).
The conference will take place at the Executive Inn and Suites, 1755 Embarcadero, Oakland CA 94606. It’s a wonderfully centralized location, facing onto the Oakland Estuary with the San Francisco skyline in the distance. October is generally a warm, sunny month, allowing for spirited walks along the water.
We’ve arranged a discounted room block at the Executive Inn and Suites. Click here to book. Standard rooms are $169/night from October 2 through October 8 for those who wish to extend their visit. The room block will be available until September 24, but we recommend booking early as there are a limited number of rooms set aside for us at this rate.
The Executive Inn and Suites provides a free hot breakfast for its guests. Friday night (October 4) is open to the public. Our caterers will be featuring hor d’oeuvres created from fresh, local and savory ingredients with an open bar. Saturday and Sunday (October 5 and 6) lunches are included as are snacks and drinks during morning and afternoon breaks. We will not be providing dinner on Saturday evening, but you’ll find an array of restaurants in nearby Jack London Square and the surrounding area. Our caterers will be preparing a special Sunday dinner.
TRAVEL TO HOTEL AND SIGHTSEEING
We suggest flying into the Oakland International Airport (OAK). The hotel, which is 7 miles away, provides a limited capacity free shuttle. Taxis, UBER and LYFT are also available. If you prefer coming into San Francisco International (SFO), you can take the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit system). With transfers, it will take around 75 minutes from airport to airport. Please use the Bart Trip Planner for schedules. If you’re driving, click here for directions. There’s no charge for parking at the hotel.
We don’t need to tell you that the San Francisco Bay area is a traveler’s paradise. And we’ll be there at the best time of year to explore! If you can, we encourage you to come early and stay on after the conference. Limited-capacity, free hotel shuttles, UBER and LYFT are available to and from Jack London Square, the Oakland ferry and the Lake Merritt Bart Station, which will quickly get you into the city of San Francisco. If you need some help in planning your time outside the conference, here are a couple places to start.
